Frequently asked questions
Does it cost anything to shop?
No, shopping is always free. You can browse and buy as a guest, or create a free account that keeps track of what you bought and who you bought it from, so reordering from your favorite producers is easy.
How do I find producers near me?
You set your own search radius, so you can keep it to your neighborhood or widen it to see more producers in your area.
How do I pay?
You pay the producer directly. Once you place an order, the producer is notified and the two of you agree on a payment method (cash, Venmo, etc.) through the site’s messaging. Close to Home Market never handles or holds your payment.
How do I get my items?
You and the producer arrange pickup through the site’s messaging, choosing a time and place that works for both of you. It’s also a great chance to meet the people behind your food and goods.
As a Producer what can I sell?
Anything you make, bake, or grow yourself locally. Items you make from purchased materials are welcome; for example, floral arrangements designed from purchased flowers. Not allowed: reselling items bought elsewhere, and cannabis, THC, or related products.
Do producers need a license?
Cottage food producers, including home bakers, are responsible for getting and keeping any licenses required where they live.
How do I set up my store?
Choose “Vendor” on the home page, register, and build your store. An administrator reviews each new store before it goes live.
What does it cost to sell?
Selling is free during our beta period. After launch, it’s a one-time $39 setup fee plus $19 per month, or $190 per year if you pay annually (two months free). Beta producers will have their setup fee waived. Close to Home Market takes no commission on your sales.
Can I pause my store during my off-season?
Yes. If you sell seasonally, you can pause your subscription and pick back up when you’re ready. While paused, your store shows as “Temporarily Closed” and buyers can’t place orders. Your store stays set up, so reopening is quick with no need to start over.
How do I get paid?
Buyers pay you directly, using whatever payment methods you and the buyer agree on. Every dollar of the sale is yours.
